Milano Expo 2015 – Feeding the World, Energy for Life
Milan has been nominated this past March to host the 2015 World Expedition, which is the third greatest global event in regards to economic and cultural impacts on the host country. The “Feeding the World; Energy for Life” campaign will be primarily focused on food and food safety.
The six month exhibition creates thousands of jobs and brings in hundreds of millions of dollars for the host city. The theme of the Milan Expo will be “Feeding the World; Energy for Life”. As the motto suggests, Expo 2015 will be dedicated to food and food safety. According to organizers, the guarantee of a healthy and balanced diet and safe drinking water for everyone is a priority for humanity because it concerns the product of human work, it has an immediate impact on people’s health and it has a direct influence on global environment policy. Milan’s Expo 2015 proposes a journey that brings together the culture, technology and politics of food, from now to 2015, to awaken a global conscience regarding the right to healthy food for all, respect for the environment and the sustainable development of the planet.
In preparing for Expo 2015, € 3,228 million will be invested by the Italian Government, by local governments and by the private sector to prepare the site and construct the necessary facilities (€ 1,253 million), to connect the site to the surrounding area (€ 1,780 million), to improve the accommodation capacity and to carry out other technical work (€ 60 million). The private sector (companies, financial institutions, etc.) has shown great interest in the infrastructure works. It is estimated that private businesses will invest roughly € 900 million of the € 3,228 million figure quoted above. Moreover, investments in transportation infrastructure by public and private entities are estimated at € 10,179 million. Furthermore, 21 million tourists are expected to visit Milan for the 2015 Expo, 73% of them from Italy and the remainder from other countries.
